“Known for her storytelling and emotionally charged, authentic performances, Irish soprano Helen Hancock and German pianist Paul Cibis present beloved songs of Schubert, Strauss and Fauré in a beautiful evening of music which also includes On this Island by Benjamin Britten.

To mark St Patricks Day, the programme will also include Irish songs - At the Midhour of Night (Thomas Moore) set by Benjamin Britten, a song by Irish composer Ina Boyle, and two haunting settings of the Irish poet Máirtín Ó Direáin by Criostóir Ó Loingsigh. A rare chance to hear the Irish language in a classical music setting!

Leave the world behind and let the music wash over you in the warm and welcoming surrounds of the ballroom of the Hardiman Hotel, Galway.

Helen and Paul's collaboration began with a performance of their programme Zweisamkeit (Two Togetherness) in Würzburg, Germany in June 2024 as part of Zeitgeist Irland 24, an initiative of Culture Ireland and the Embassy of Ireland, Germany. This programme was recorded and will be released as an album this year. A short video documenting this recording project can be viewed on this page- check it out.

This concert at the Hardiman Ballroom is supported by the Discipline of German, The School of Languages, Literatures and Cultures at University of Galway and the Discipline of Music.”
